The History Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, organized a Public Discussion on the Draft of the Indonesian History Book on Monday, July 28, held at the Lecture Theater of the General Building, ULM. This event served as a strategic forum to gather perspectives and constructive criticism from various stakeholders in an effort to reconstruct a more comprehensive narrative of Indonesian history. The event was officially opened by the Director of History and Museums, Agus Mulyana, and was attended by the Vice Dean for Finance and General Affairs of FKIP ULM, Dharmono, members of the FKIP ULM board of professors serving as editors, representatives of the Banjarmasin City Office of Culture, and students.

In his opening remarks, Agus Mulyana emphasized the urgency of the project, noting that the last compilation of the Indonesian National History book was completed in the 1980s and has not yet incorporated developments in the post-Reformasi era. “Through this activity, we aim to refine the record of the Indonesian nation’s journey by involving various stakeholders, so that the history written becomes more vivid and inclusive,” he stated. Similar discussions have previously been held at the University of Indonesia and will continue at Universitas Negeri Padang and Universitas Negeri Makassar.

The Vice Dean of FKIP ULM, Dharmono, warmly welcomed the initiative as a positive step toward presenting an up-to-date and relevant historical narrative for contemporary generations. He expressed hope that the compilation of this book would serve as a shared reference that fosters a coherent understanding of the dynamics of national history. This collaboration between educational institutions and the government reflects a tangible commitment to preserving the nation’s historical heritage in a critical, objective, and sustainable manner.
