The History Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) once again conducted an Integrated Field Study as part of an experiential learning approach. This activity was carried out on September 29–30, 2025. This year’s program adopted the theme “Exploring the History of River Navigation in South Kalimantan,” and was packaged as a Barito River Cruise aboard the Pinisi vessel.
Students not only enjoyed the scenic views of the Barito River and the beauty of the sunset from the cruise, but also gained first-hand learning experiences related to the history of river navigation and river-based culture in South Kalimantan. The activity was guided by speakers from the Borneo Historical Community, who shared insights into the historical significance of rivers and their role in the lives of the Banjar people in the past.
In addition to the learning sessions, participants also enjoyed various facilities, including a welcome drink, snacks, buffet meals, live music, and documentation services. This activity is expected to foster students’ appreciation of local maritime history and strengthen their understanding of river-based cultural identity, which has long served as the lifeblood of South Kalimantan society.
