Students of the History Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, conducted their final field study session prior to the Final Examination (UAS) for the course Indonesian History from the Early Independence Period to the Old Order Era at the ALRI Division IV Paku Alam Monument. The activity was supervised by Ms. Fitri and Ms. Dewicca on Friday, 12 December 2025.
The ALRI Division IV Paku Alam Monument is a historical site that represents the strategic role of the Indonesian Navy (Angkatan Laut Republik Indonesia) in defending national sovereignty during the early years of independence. The site stands as a testament to the struggle to maintain state existence amid logistical limitations, military pressure, and complex national political dynamics. The students’ presence in this historical space was not merely a visit, but an effort to reinterpret the narrative of struggle through material traces and the collective memory of the nation.
Through this field study, students were encouraged to connect classroom theories with historical realities in the field, sharpen their critical thinking skills, and strengthen historical awareness of the dynamic processes involved in the formation of the Indonesian state from the early independence period through the Old Order era. It is hoped that this activity not only enriches academic understanding but also fosters an appreciative attitude toward historical sites and builds a sense of responsibility among the younger generation to preserve, care for, and meaningfully interpret the nation’s heritage of struggle.
