On Thursday, November 20, 2025, students of the History Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM), Class of ’23, who were enrolled in the Historical Methods course, conducted a field study at the South Kalimantan Provincial Library and Archives Office in Banjarbaru. The activity was accompanied by faculty members, namely Mr. Bambang, Mr. Anis, and Mr. Willy.

During the visit, students received direct explanations from professional archivists regarding the archival collections, various types of documents, processing procedures, and archival access mechanisms for research purposes. They were also introduced to the National Archival Information Network (Jaringan Informasi Kearsipan Nasional/JIKN) as a digital platform that enables online archival searches across different regions in Indonesia. As part of the learning experience, students were guided through the document processing unit and archival storage rooms, which are designed according to specific standards to preserve the physical integrity of historical records.

Through this activity, students not only gained theoretical understanding but also directly observed how archives are preserved, managed, and utilized as primary sources for historical reconstruction. This field study represents a meaningful step in fostering awareness of the importance of preserving the nation’s collective memory.
